our founder: louise zobell

honouring louise
the heart behind Dominican Starfish Foundation.

After first visiting the Dominican Republic in 2006, Louise saw both the deep needs of families living in poverty and the incredible strength, dignity, and potential within the communities she came to love. What began as a desire to help one family grew into a lasting mission that has changed the lives of thousands of children and families.
In 2012, Louise founded Dominican Starfish Foundation and dedicated herself full-time to creating opportunities for those in need.
Under her leadership, the Foundation supported homes, schools, education, food programs, community projects, and countless acts of compassion.
Louise believed that even small acts of kindness could create lasting change. Her vision was never just about giving help. It was about building relationships, restoring hope, and walking alongside families as they created brighter futures.

Louise passed away on February 8, 2026, while in the Dominican Republic, the place where she gave so much of her heart. Her legacy continues through the work of Dominican Starfish Foundation, the communities she served, and the many people she inspired.
We honour Louise by continuing the mission she began: to create lasting opportunities for children and families in the Dominican Republic.
